A brand name for a combination of the opioid oxycodone and aspirin, Percodan is an opioid painkiller used to treat moderate pain. Percodan use has largely been supplanted by combinations of opioids with acetaminophen.
Percodan abuse still goes on, however, and as is the case with every opioid, Percodan is habit-forming. Percodan abuse causes the drug to lose its effect, meaning users have to take more of it to feel the same effect. Large doses of oxycodone can be lethal; similarly, large doses of aspirin can cause serious injury.
Percodan addiction is treatable, but the withdrawal symptoms are better treated at a detox center rather than on one’s own.
