This is the history of how we decided to open this house. ( Because my mother didn't get to live a quality lifestyle, we wanted to give other women the opportunity). Ethel Hardy was a single parent that successfully raised two children while struggling with an alcohol and drug addiction for the majority of her life. On June 23, 2019, Ethel Hardy lost her life, not to alcohol or drugs, but to multiple health issues. Ethel was two years drug and alcohol-free after being informed by her primary care physician, that any drug or alcohol usage, would shorten her life span. The Ethel Hardy House was a vision without a name prior to Ms. Hardy's untimely death. The purpose of this home is to provide women with an opportunity, to not only have a structured, clean and sober, family environment to live in, but also enjoy a healthy lifestyle. The location of the house is confidential due to the safety of the women. We provide more than just a bed for women to sleep in, we provide structure and a foundation for the recovery process, we also provide case management for the ladies by linking them with Treatment programs, Mental Health facilities, and also Primary Care. We also provide washing powder, cleaning products, PPE equipment. Our residents are responsible for their own food. We understand how important the continuum of care is to women early in recovery which is why we are also dedicated to assisting women with probation compliance, DCFS compliance, and any other issues that may be a barrier to their recovery process. As we would prefer our residents to walk through the door with a connection to sponsorship and a support group, we realize that due to COVID-19 and restrictions in treatment centers, we may have to provide assistance with the establishment of these aspects of recovery. We also abide by the fair housing laws and do not discriminate against any resident due to the medications that they are prescribed by a physician, or for any other reason. The Program Director and Executive Director works very hard to secure funding for our residents to live rent-free, but funding is not always definite and any resident looking to secure a bed needs to take this into consideration. Our only aim is to help.
